Sometimes, Round Two: Day 23 of 365 – Simplicity Is The Answer!

Sometimes Simplicity Is The Answer Regardless Of The Question!

Life is complicated! It generates questions about purpose and meaning. It generates questions about direction and destiny. It generates questions about happiness and sadness. Questions, questions, questions! They abound!

Learning to craft really good questions is an art. Most of the time we ask questions in order to receive answers or shed light on a situation. At other times we ask questions to dodge truth, deflect focus or defend wrong. Whether questions are short or long, complex or simplistic, profound or ludicrous, they all seek the same thing – Answers!

The answers we give are almost as confusing! Sometimes we believe that in order to answer a question, it must be complicated or detailed.

In all reality, Sometimes Simplicity Is The Answer Regardless Of The Question!

Want a few examples of Simple Answers? Here they are:

  • Yes
  • No
  • I will
  • I won’t
  • I did it
  • I did not do it
  • I apologize
  • I was wrong
  • You were right
  • I should have
  • You should go/stay
  • I love you

See how simple these answers are? Imagine what might happen if we answered all questions with simple, straightforward, to-the-point answers! Imagine!

But you ask, “Mark, how likely is this to happen?”

My answer? “Not Very” . . . However, there is always hope!

Peace!

I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 1994 and a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor since 2011. I received my BA in Sociology and Psychology from Hardin-Simmons University and my Master’s in Counseling from the University of North Texas.

I specialize in the field of loss/grief and have written, trained, and presented workshops on loss/grief since 1990. Helping clients learn to work toward reconciliation and integration of life losses is the basis of my work in this area.

My wife and I are both therapists and often work together with couples in our practice. We find that couples respond well to our co-therapist approach.
